Connecting your Portable ATA to the Internet Print
There is a sophisticated high-speed router inside your Portable ATA. It has a great many features and abilities.

For your convenience, BNT Solutions has programmed your Portable ATA for you so that it will work fine if you plug it into a standard (DHCP enabled) networking environment. This is the kind of environment that you would most likely have if you purchased a small router that is plugged into an ADSL modem.

In addition, BNT Solutions has programmed the ATA so that we can access it for you if you need any changes to the configuration.

To install your Portable ATA unit into your existing network:

  • Connect your ADSL modem directly to the INTERNET port on the ATA.
  • Connect your existing equipment (PC or WiFi Router,) to the ETHERNET port on the ATA.

This will connect the ATA directly to the internet. All other devices in your internal network will then access the internet through the ATA.

Note that this standard configuration will ensure the best possible sound quality as the router will give preference to the VOIP communications - automatically ensuring that the voice information passes first through the modem.

If, for some reason, you must keep some other equipment connected directly to the modem:

  • Connect the ATA to your home network through the INTERNET port and leave the ETHERNET port unused.
  • Note that sound quality will be adversely affected by any traffic going through the modem during a voice call.
  • Note also that BNT Solutions will not be able to provide maintenance service for your ATA if it is not directly connected to the internet. Software updates and configuration changes will not be possible in this configuration.
